The plains of Ebenezer have yielded small crops of intensely flavoured Shiraz grapes for many years - and the Hoffmann’s have been a part of the local northern ground landscape of the Barossa Valley for 6 generations. So typical of this little patch of grape paradise, it shows the concentration and weight of tannin expected from this patch of ground. Dark black and blue fruit, a big spicy smile, subtle French oak that compliments the spicy notes and a finish that goes on and on. Firm and fleshy, full flavoured and friendly. Cellar for years to come if you want, or dive in now and see the brightness of youth.
The Helbig family have been farming their land in the Northern and Western reaches of the Barossa for 5 generations. This family take great pride in producing grapes of superb quality, that reflect the loamy soils of the Western Grounds. Richly flavoured and textured wines, with alluring dark red, blue and black fruits and the signature of this little slice of the Barossa. Quite firm, but yet very fine and elegant tannins with great concentration and power of fruit weight on the palate - are the hallmarks of this Shiraz vineyard's origin.
Once a much larger vineyard, these 106 individual vines have survived the encroachment of the town of Nuriootpa and are now all that is left. These vines are over 135 years old, making it amongst the more ancient vines of this under rated variety. Tended individually by hand, due to the size of the block that is left, these Survivor Vines eek out a living in dry grown conditions just north of the township. A remnant of ancient wonder.
This tiny block barely gave rise of enough fruit to make 1 barrel only. Open shallow fermented in a tub, plunged daily twice by hand, basket pressed then matured in 1 French oak hogshead, which was 3 years old. Maturation for almost 2 years followed by hand bottling.
The Kleinig family are direct descendants from the very early Lutheran families that settled in the north of the Barossa Valley and have been farming their land for 5 generations. Their vineyard lies at a geographical intersection that spans the individual areas of Ebenezer, Koonunga and Moppa – all very much a part of the greater northern Barossa tapestry of soils. This particular Shiraz block dates back to the 1920’s and has been lovingly cared for by the Kleinig family members ever since.
Our single-vineyard wines come from one dedicated farming family, truly reflecting the best of the best from that particular year. The Roennfeldt family has been farming their land in the western reaches of the Barossa Valley for six generations, near the village of Greenock. Descended from the original settlers, the family takes immense pride in producing grapes of superb quality that reflect the red, loamy soils abundant in the western grounds. These richly flavoured and textured wines are known for their abundant dark berry and black cassis fruit notes — the hallmark of this unique slice of the Barossa. Firm yet elegant tannins highlight the Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard’s distinctive origins. This wine was traditionally open-fermented, softly pressed, and aged in oak barrels for a period of two years prior to bottling. It has been lovingly crafted to age gracefully, offering its finest for 10 or more years from its release.
